Hexagon Valley replaced the old four-camera setup with six TP-Link VIGI 8MP active deterrent cameras, giving the home broader coverage across key external areas.
A TP-Link VIGI NVR1008H-8MP was installed to support the upgraded camera system and provide room for the six-camera layout.
Because the original cabling was in good condition, it was reused where suitable. This helped reduce unnecessary work and kept the installation efficient.
For the camera on the brown feature wall, a new direct cable run back to the NVR was not practical without a major access issue. Instead, a PoE extender was installed behind the camera inside the wall, allowing one cable to support an additional nearby camera without a large and expensive cable run.
The new VIGI cameras provided red and blue flashing lights, alarm sounds, and voice warning options such as “You are under surveillance” or “This is private property, keep out.”
The client originally wanted to add two additional cameras to an existing four-channel Dahua CCTV system. The issue was that the existing NVR had no spare channels available, which meant the system could not be expanded without replacing key equipment.
After reviewing the options, the client decided to move beyond a simple add-on and upgrade the entire system. While the existing cabling was still in good condition and could be reused in several areas, the old cameras would not provide the full smart features available through a modern VIGI system. Keeping them was possible, but they would have operated more like standard “dumb” cameras, limiting the value of the upgrade.
One camera location also created a cabling challenge. Running a new cable from the preferred camera position back to the NVR would have required difficult access through wall and roof cavities, creating unnecessary cost and complexity for a single cable run.
The result was a complete six-camera VIGI CCTV upgrade that improved coverage around the home while avoiding unnecessary cabling costs through a practical PoE extender solution.
